We can make our glasses half full
Believe the earth is round
Going around and around tasting the same ocean more than once
We can climb tall trees with the leafs colored like the northern skies
Swim in the sand
Reaching for smooth white shells
Homes of creatures that left their past behind to find bigger dreams
Hug strangers
Read their lips but still wonder what their trying to say
But at least you tried
Eat chocolate crickets and fried ants biting your tongue in disgust
But at least you tried
Have picnics by a pond
Throwing bits of bread at the floating ducks
They flock toward you
Feeling needed
Feeling wanted
Or you can make your glass half empty
Believe the earth is flat
Falling off the edge into nothing
You could stand firm on the cold ground
Gripping onto the grass
Never knowing how high you could really go
Glance at the sand and not wonder what creatures built their homes there or how many grains of sand there are
Never read the lips of strangers
Unknown of the stories they hold
Untold ideas and creativity
Or the questions in their eyes
Tasting the same food
Like famine in our hands
You keep the bread for yourself
Leaving the ducks belly up and needy
No one comes to you
And you question why you never even tried
