8-14-16 Have You Seen These Eyes?
•Have you seen these eyes?•
I should just cover my mouth and take it like a bullet to the chest
Cover my ears and block it out like a punch to the face
Cover my eyes and face it walking through the dark
I'm cutting my feet on the road I travel
I'm unaware of my surroundings and trip on every obstacle
I'm putting my hands in front of me trying to feel my way through the dark
I'm holding onto nothing
My eyes have run out of light and my legs are as unsteady as my breathing
I think I've wondered off the road
The rocks scarring my feet feel different
My hands have turned into lost puppies
Lost and alone with nothing to hold
Is this what it feels like to be missing
He's put up posters of my dark eyes on street lamps and parked cars
In diners and candy shops
But no one seems to notice
My eyes begin to drift along the lonely streets and littered alleys
I thought nothing went unnoticed in this town
When something is stolen, sirens begin to flash
When someone escapes, we take off without looking back
When a sign reads missing
We assume someone else will take down the poster
Or call the number
Instead we babble about the weather
Leaving the missing poster nailed to the post
While I'm lost on the dark and sharp road
Blind and helpless
Skin torn from my body
Feet scarred and bleeding
Clutching my chest
Hands holding onto nothing
The posters stay nailed to posts
No one is searching
And I'm still missing
